Join us to Launch The Presentation Lab Book

Tuesday, March 25th, 2014

Launch day is fast approaching and we’ve lined up some great speakers to help send it out into the world.

Everyone knows about the past ills of presentations, but this is no time to dwell on the mediocrity of clip art or the soporific effect of reading every slide to your audience. Now’s the time to look to the future of presentations and The Presentation Lab book is where it’s at.

Our official, online, launch event will be taking place on Monday 31st March at 16.00 UK time (11.00 EDT / 08.00 PDT). Everyone that registers will have free access to the first chapter of the book and the opportunity to hear from industry leaders about how the book will impact modern business communication.

We’re also offering a lucky few attendees the chance to win copies of the book in its entirety.

For anyone interested in making their presentations as good as they can be it’s a great way to spend a (quite likely dreary) Monday afternoon.

Joining in is easy simply click here to register and we’ll see you on the 31st.

A Book is Born

Friday, March 21st, 2014

As regular readers will know, writing the Presentation Lab book has been a labour of love. I’ve shared the highs and lows of the writing process and as publication looms I have to admit that I’m feeling a little overwhelmed.

I know that the whole point of writing a book is for it to be published and read, but I can’t help feeling that this thing that I have given so much of my time to, is going to feel somehow abandoned by me. In a strange way it’s not going to be MY book anymore, it’s going to belong to everyone who reads it and takes action based on the content. It’s a lot for one book (and me) to take in.

So, it seems that the best I can do to help it find its way is to introduce it to those people I think will most appreciate it, and that, dear readers, is you!

I would be truly delighted if you would join me, my colleagues, industry experts and presentation enthusiasts from around the globe to give The Presentation Lab book a launch like no other.

On Monday 31st March at 16.00 UK time (11.00 EDT / 08.00 PDT) I’ll be hosting a virtual launch party and anyone with an internet connection and an interest in effective business communications is welcome to join in.

Everyone who registers to attend will also get free access to read the first chapter of the book without ever having to find a quiet corner of a bookshop.

The event will include insight and comment from industry experts, a live Q&A with yours truly and a chance to win a copy of the book. Getting involved is really easy, simply click here to register and we’ll see you on the 31st.

So who should buy this book?

Wednesday, February 19th, 2014

A good friend of mine used to talk about his addiction to buying business books.  He confessed that the allure of browsing his local bookshop or jumping online and revelling in the vast range of options at Amazon or Barnes & Noble was becoming a bit of a problem.  He concluded that it was the ‘idea’ of reading the book that appealed more than actually cracking the spine and getting something tangible from the author – ‘shelf development’ rather than self development.

No author wants their opus to sit unloved, unread and un-annotated on a shelf (sure, the royalty cheque from the publisher will go a little way to salve the pain…but, trust me, not that much!).

Nope – they want their work to make a difference.  To change the way people approach things, to spark a new idea or simply reinforce the good practices already in place.  Same goes for The Presentation Lab.

So who should be buying The Presentation Lab and how do I hope it will impact the way they approach presentations?

Let me explain…

Oh, and please promise me one thing.

If you’re good enough to spend your money on buying the book, please read it, add notes to it and make it part of your presentation development toolkit. An unread book is an unhappy book.

Why should we listen to YOU?

Wednesday, February 12th, 2014

Much to my surprise, I found the process of writing The Presentation Lab quite cathartic.  As the culmination of almost a decade of working with all manner of business presenters in a wide array of companies in many far flung places, it’s packed with lessons learned along with the way.  Quite a nice way of off-loading some of the issues that impact presenters every day.

It deals with the reality of business presentations, from the rising panic that comes with the realisation that your pitch has a notable absence of story or structure (let alone a clear message).

It addresses the constant allure of fancy new presentation technology…and then tells you what works best for different situations.

Oh, and it shares an insight into how to beat the culture of ‘Death by PowerPoint’ that so readily pervades businesses today.

And as all great presentations, it’s packed with stories and messages that are relevant to business presenters each and every day.  Presenters just like you…

Now we’ve dealt with the tricky question regarding the need for yet another presentation book, we can dive into the good stuff.

  • What are the key messages?
  • How is it going to help business presenters in companies large and small all over the world?

If finding new ways of understanding and engaging with your audience, focussing your presentation message, delivering your story in a way that reflects your audiences requirements AND maximises the impact of the plethora of new technology is of interest, grab a coffee and settle in…

Is There A Need For Yet Another Presentation Book..?

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

Today’s business presenter has never had it so good…

We’ve got more presentation tools available to us than ever before.  The internet is awash with blogs, Tweets and videos on how to be a great presenter.  Oh, and there are a multitude of books (some great, some not so) to fill in the gaps.

So the question remains – is there really a place for yet another book on the subject..?

The answer, simply, is ‘yes‘.

Yes‘ because much of the advice out there is confusing, contradictory or simply created by people who understand the theory but rarely get their hands dirty.  ‘Yes‘ because the Presentation Landscape is changing (fast) and business people need to know how to maximise the opportunity new technology and working cultures provide.  And, perhaps most importantly, ‘yes‘ because most business presentations remain resolutely unfit for purpose.

Let us explain:

Barnes & Noble and Amazon – Thanking You Kindly…

Thursday, December 5th, 2013

It may be a little early to start wistfully pondering the highs and lows of 2013 but, armed with some particularly exciting news from our friends at Barnes & Noble and Amazon, I simply couldn’t help myself…

In light of this news, 2014 looks like it’s going to be a busy one! We’re building the Eyeful USA team in anticipation of a lot of activity in North America following the publication of The Presentation Lab book as well as readying the troops across Europe.

2013 has been an amazing year…but I CANNOT wait for 2014 to start.

Until then, have a wonderful and peaceful festive break,

Simon

I’m quickly learning that a week is a long time in the dizzy world of publishing…

The last 7 days have seen me cosy up the camera for the sleeve portrait, record supporting video content and see the book being positioned as one of the ‘must have’ business titles on Amazon.com:

Nice to be in such august company, eh?

My only thought now is ‘blimey…what’s it going to be like when it’s finally available?!’
